“Frameworks” part 2

Although I only had 4 hours in the garage today I feel pretty exhausted and fired up at the same time. The fixed corner in the rear wheel arch turned out quite nice. With this out of the way I started to assemble all wooden parts both old and as well as the four new parts. If you get new wood parts from the factory you should not and cannot expect a 100% fit. The new door sill board for example is about 4cm shorter – but only on the narrow rear part behind the wheel arch.

There I fitted this to the remaining frame – using the part that connects to the fixed out wheel arch as reference. I then used the old sill upside down to drill the two holes for the coach bolts that connec the frame to the chassis. Once this was done I put the entire wood frame back on the chassis and temporarily bolted it down – allowing for some play.

Fitting the already connected new elbow frame and catch post to the sill board required a significant amount of rasping. The new rocker followed and while it fitted nicely to the latch post it was a bit too long for the scuttle post. I reassemled the entire passenger side of the car – made sure that the chassis was level and measued the angle of the scuttle post. Smarter people might have calculated how much needs to be cut off from the door rocker – with some measuring and guessing I figures 6,5mm need to go.

There is still plenty of work left to get the frame down – but I have the feeling on being on track. Next step is to take of the frame from the chassis again to glue and permantly screw all parts together. After that I will trial fit the alloy panels to see if I need to do some sanding before I will apply base coat and paint.
