some panels back on

Last Thursday evening I was able to pick up all panels from the paint-shop. Everything is now protected with EP and the backside of the aluminum panel that go on the frame is painted in British Racing Green. Ok – we all know that there isn’t a single BRG – there are many shaded. So, to be more precise: I went for BMW Aquabase Plus Standard Connaught Green – GN18 – variant No 1.

As shown in earlier posts I crafted the rear quarter panels myself from new 1mm thick aluminum sheets. Today I screwed and nailed them back on the frame. I took my time to attach them and I am quite happy with the result. The rear panels don’t completely overlap at the bottom – but this was never the case as long as I remember the car. I tried to improve the gap by sanding down the rear bottom rail. This helped a bit – but there is still a small gap which I might fill with a small piece and some solder…. not sure about this yet.

There aren’t any pictures from yesterday as my phone battery died on me. The EZ powersteering is now in the car and the steering roughly adjusted. I wouldn’t drive with this but it is sufficient get it on a trailer and have a professional do the final adjustment. The plywood inner back panel was cut to fit with the new Rutherford rear suspenion.

Before I put the scuttle panel back on I need to create a template for a new dashboard. As I am not planning to put the padding back on the scuttle – as larger dash is required. Hopefully, I find some time this week to continue with this task but my work schedule is quite packed – so I might have to wait until next weekend.
