mood down, teardown, lockdown

For the first time in the last couple months, I did not spend a minute in the garage last week. Work kept me busy until late afternoon all week. With Miffi (my Mini Cooper) and random stuff temporarily stored in the garage the space is limited. This results in moving stuff around for quite a while before being able to work on the next task. The entire garage looked like a mess. Combined with cold and rainy weather I could not motivate myself to continue with the task list I put together for the Morgan last week.

Something has to change. Therefore, I decided to rearrange/rebuild my workbench and storage. The garage is 5,25m wide and 5,10m deep. When I build the shelf and workbench earlier this year I thought that once I am done with the Morgan rebuild, I could store the Mini (Miffi), the MGB GT (Maggie) and the Morgan (Moggi) on wheel dollies next to each other. While this would theoretically work out – it will never happen. And right now, storage space and a clean bench is more important.

With a potential strict lockdown coming closer – I got some material for a new bench from the hardware store on Friday evening. The plan was to build the new bench on Saturday. But I promised a friend to help out and quickly put down some laminate flooring in her new kitchen. The result is quite ok – but it took me close to 5 hours instead of the 3 I had anticipated. So again – no garage time on Saturday….

Today I finally got back to the garage. However, with the sunny and nice weather I decided to take out Maggie for a spin. After a quick checkup (oil, air, etc) I drove to Adenau (Nürburg Ring). I absolutely love the road to Kaltenborn and from there to Kesseling. Since I know that my front wheel bearings need replacement (I already have the spare parts but did not have the space in the garage) I drove carefully. It was great to get out, nevertheless. Back in Bonn I cleaned up the car and covered it up in our other garage.

The rest of the afternoon I moved stuff from one corner of the garage to the other. The teardown of the old shelf is almost done. Today they announced that we will have a complete lockdown by Wednesday – so be it: I have enough work ahead of me 😉
