Back to the future of C6622

While I haven’t done much on the Morgan for the last two weeks – I still have been quite busy. As mentioned in my last post, stress at work, frustration about the lockdown and chaos in the garage resulted in a bad mood. There is nothing I can do about work and Covid-19 – so it is important focus on the things I can change. Just before all stores closed, I bought some wood to build a new workbench and some shelves.

Maybe I should have started with a sketch and measuring – but in the end I just worked based on an “plan” I had in my head. For the most part I was able to exactly build the bench as I envisioned it – just the part in front of the window is now a bit more permanent than I originally wanted it to be. I only opened the windows once this year – so in the end it should not really matter that the bench blocks it now.

As I could not do much on the car in the garage, I did work on the Weber. The required spare parts from Webcon arrived last week and in between calls for work I reassembled the carburetor. While the new teflon bushes reduce the play of the primary and secondary throttle shaft – there is still a tiny bit of movement. This obviously could result in issues with the idle speed or worse. If bad comes to worse – I will replace it. Along with the Weber I also cleaned up the old dual HS SU4 from my MGB as well as a HIF6 I have as spare for the Mini. All of them have worn out throttle shafts – I guess it wouldn’t hurt to learn how to drill them out and ream in new bushes…

A quick and easy “side-task” came along last week. Did you know that a Miele washing machine has shock absorbers pretty much like on a car (just smaller)? After a couple years they wear out and cause really bad vibrations – as they only cost 60€ it is worth just swapping them out.
Fingers-crossed the new wiring loom from Autosparks will arrive tomorrow. With an updated task list, additional spare parts and a clean garage it is time to work on the Morgan again.
