Today I finally got the proof that my initial calculation of 6 to 8 hours to put the wiring back into the car wasn’t far off. Well, that is if you have a correct and working wiring harness for your car. Anybody that has read my last posts or talked to me over the last month knows that I had some trouble with this topic. After the new MTA fuse box arrived, I modified the Autosparks loom. I don’t want to go into too much detail here, but I took a good amount of time to reroute, extend and add some cables.
The new TS-100 soldering iron turned out to be a great investment. Not only is it small and handy but it heats up quickly and can be used on a 12v battery supply. All connections received a bit of silicon grease and were protected with heat-shrink. All cables for the dashboard are now connected to two 13way and two 6way EconoSeal connectors. This will hopefully make dashboard works/changes a lot easier.
Instead of tapping screws I just rivet nuts for all cable brackets in the engine bay. There are still some open tasks left. The new Inertia switch needs to find a home and some cables on the right inner wing need to be extended (I already knew that this part of the loom was too short). In addition to the “normal” rear harness connector I also need to add cables for a Brantz gearbox sensor as well as the cables for the heated seats (yes, another upgrade 😊)
What I also finished last weekend was the trial fit of the wings and the cowl. During the fitting of the right front-wing I noticed that the screw holes don’t really align. While my parents (who owned the car for 30+ years) tell me that they never had an accident – I am certain that the front right wing is a little bent. This is also slightly visible in the headlamp nacelle. So, this needs to be sorted when the car gets to the paint/body shop in the next couple of weeks.
