Touch the leather

yet again a blog title taken from a song on my Spotify discover weekly playlist. I had plenty of time to listen to music as I had to drive up north to pick up the newly upholstered seats for the Morgan. While the lyrics of the song certainly have a somewhat different meaning – the title fits. If you haven’t seen how the seats looked like before than check out my “Waiting to be seated…” from last December. I am really happy with the result and can’t wait for the first test drive.

While absolutely worth the money the seats really hit me hard on the budget side of things. And although I have zero experience with upholstery – the only option for the rest of the interior is to do this job myself. So, I also bought 5qm of the same black leather to cover the side panels, etc. Much to the dislike of my better half who seems to doubt that I have the necessary skills to glue leather to a wooden panel…. well, I will cross this bridge when I get there…

A minimal expense was the used Weber carb I found on Ebay classified ads for 35€. The description wasn’t precise but from the pictures I was quite certain that it is a 32/34 DFT. After it arrived, I quickly wiped the dirt of the side of the carb and sure enough – it is 32DFT. If I am not mistaking – the throttle body is the same – just the primary and secondary jets are different. The Weber 32DFT was typically on MK2 Fiesta’s from 1983 to 1986. The Escort XR3 (same engine as my Morgan) used the same carb – but with different jets. If my theory is correct – I will find a 115main primary with a 50 idle and a 125 main secondary with a 60 idle jet inside.

I bought another used 32 DFT because the main throttle shaft in my carb still has minimal play. If this causes issues, I wanted to have a backup throttle body before trying to rebush it. Additionally, I know have another carb to double check that I reassembled mine correctly.
