Causality

With close to minus 10 C° degrees outside the garage is currently not a nice place to be at. So instead of working on the scuttle panel this week I focus on stuff I can do at home. And among those tasks is the dashboard. I had a first attempt to create one a couple weeks ago, but my home-built router table failed on me during this process.

But in order to build a new router table I needed to use the table saw which was also lacking a better stand. So it was time to “clean up” my woodshop dungeon – 9 square meter in our basement with a ceiling height of 175cm (my height is 184cm…) With this little space to work with – things have to be mobile. So I used all the plywood cutoffs I had collected over time to build a combined table-saw/router-table with integrated dust-collection (ok – I am cheating – the dust collection is not finished yet)

Immediately when I made the first cut, I noticed that the blade is not really cutting well enough. Sure enough – it was time to clean it again. While it was soaking in oven cleaner, I sanded down the back side of the old Matthias Kauffelt dashboard. There was a bit of mold on it and it was not completely even.  It is most likely that I will reinstall the old MK dash in the beginning. However, I want to try build my own one.

Just as I had the table-saw stand and router ready, the old dashboard prepared as template for the copy bit on the router and the mess I made along the way – my wife reminded me that it is close to 11pm and that we do have neighbors….. guess the dash needs to wait another day.
