The Morgan is coming back from technical inspection. But…..
….not as planned on its own wheels – I need to get a trailer again. The owner of the garage in Solingen was polite when he said on the phone that the car doesn’t give them any joy. What he actually meant is that I did a lousy job on some parts – and I am a quite embarrassed about some of the mistakes. There are also a few issues that I just didn’t know about or could have seen coming. A full list of things that have been corrected and what I still need to address will be subject of a future post.
My work schedule has been quite packed and intense after my vacation. Therefore, I didn’t spend any time in the garage until tonight after removing the engine last Friday evening. The cunning plan was to move the Mini to the right back corner of the garage – with the front under the workbench. When I built the bench, I measured the height of the Mini and thought that the 85cm would just fit. Turns out – with the engine removed and the Mini on new car dollies – there is not enough clearance. The easiest solution would be to deflate the tires – but it would also not be very good for the wheels. Taking the wheels of and putting the mini on different castors a second option. Adjusting the height of the workbench might be the most difficult option….

Preparing to hoist the engine into the back of my car
Not visibile – the a solid wooden block behind the engine to keep it from falling
Looks shacky – but the engine is tightly strapped to anchor points on the back seats. I cannot move
slight planning mistake
The garage is 5 by 5 meters. If I get the Mini with right rear corner – I still can park the Morgan and have plently of workspace.
Well – a job for another day…..
