There are a couple of reasons why it has been a while since my last post. Uncertainty number one is when the spare will arrive. I ordered quite a few parts from Rimmerbros on May 10th. But, due to some hick-up of the delivery company the package never left the UK. The tracking info shows that it got the Heathrow a week ago and was sent back today. Fortunately, Rimmerbros has a good customer service and the package should be on its way again. Hopefully it will arrive on Saturday.
Even with the new parts I will not be able to complete the MG this coming weekend. Powder-coating also takes a bit longer than I had hoped for. The owner of the Pulverbar is a really nice guy. He will also try to repair the clutch pedal by welding the worn-out hole for the clevis pin that connects to the clutch master cylinder. Early MGB pedals are a hard-to-find spare part. As a risk mitigation strategy for a failed repair – I bought a used from Ebay UK as backup and had it send to my son in the UK. He was going to visit us, but with the Covid-19 travel restriction – this is the next thing that is up in the air.
In parallel I have started to work on the next version of the Morgan dashboard. But the new Speedo and Tachometer I ordered from EuropaSpares and that should have been delivered a while ago – now won’t be available until mid to late June.
The last reason why there is little progress, is that there are also some things “up in the air” at work for me since last Friday. This came completely unexpected. It has the effect that I have too many other things on my mind. Spending time in the garage is not one of them. Well, at least on Sunday I managed to change the bearing races and set the end-float on the front axles of the MGB. A number of websites and videos said that the shims required are usually 0.56 thousands-of-an-inch. This turned out to be spot on for my car as well.

Maggie still “up-in-the-air”
There was some surface rust under the pedal box. A few minutes with the wire wheel took care of this.
I applied rust converter -still need to put a layer of paint onto of this
Do you spot the stupid mistake I made here?
After a night in the freezer, the new race was quickly installed.I used the old race and a block of wood to drive it in.
You can hear by the sound of the hammer if the new race is seated correctly
First time using this dial to measure the end-float.
The correct shim size on both sides.
