Green wings, doors & body

after a sneak peak on Saturday morning (when the car was in the paint booth) I already expected the call from the paint shop today. I insisted on putting the wings back onto the car myself – and it is safe to say: they weren’t keen on doing it anyway. I was able to leave my Home Office workspace at 4pm and already had all my tools, bolts and parts in the car. Being just a weekend DIY mechanic – it is a bit awkward to work on your own car while a number of professionals are watching you.

In my own garage – I could take all the time in the world to finish the assembly. But, as part of the job, they want to do the final polish and clean-up tomorrow. So, I felt a bit of pressure getting things done. And the one task I wanted to do properly is to install the new Everflex wing piping correctly. To do this I had to jack up the car and remove the rear wheels. The rear wings went on easily and I left a couple of turns on each bolt – enough to have a gap for the Everflex. I then mounted the right front wing, which was a lot easier now that they straightend it.

Although I had the wings on before and hoped that the new stainless steel bolts would go in easily – there were a few which I just could not get in. It will be OK for transport now. Once it is back in my garage I will jack the car up and fiddle around with the bolts that cause trouble now. Same applies for the doors. Before the paint shop – they closed perfectly and there was enough gap between the wood of the door and the body of the car. With limited time – it was impossible to sort this out completely.

As I had to leave the workshop at 7pm (so after just 3 hours) I had to stop assembly while trying to fit the cowl. It is only secured by the top on lower bolts – also good enough to get it polished tomorrow.
