She is back, She is green

It was an unexpected yet very welcome surprise when I got the call yesterday noon. The paint-shop finished the Morgan earlier and told me that they would drop it off later the day. This caused me to panic a little as the garage was a complete mess. As I had nothing better to do that last couple evenings, I almost completely stripped Mildred (the new MGB GT). While most of the smaller items I took off have been cleaned, packaged up and documented – the panels, engine, gearbox and many other things were taking most of the garage space.

As the MGB project will be paused for a few weeks now, I carefully stored the gearbox, exhaust, wings and doors along wit few other things in the car. After taking the MG off the dollies I realizied that without the steering wheel handling is not as easy. But without the engine it is not hard to push the car out of the garage and back in a straight line. While I finish the Morgan, Mildred will be rolled out of the garage. With all cars in the yard in front of the garage I used the opportunity to quickly build a basic “shelf” above the garage door out of old pallet wood. While the Euroboxes storage system I have works great of most parts – the windshield, sidescreens and chrome trim need a secure storage location for the the next couple month. It’s not pretty – but will do for now.

Later last night I had a good and a bad news in my mailbox. For the interior I reached out the BlackPhey in the UK. On GoMog and some forum posts I saw and read about the fibreglass rocker covers. Unfortunately they cannot supply them this year anymore. This means I need to do build them myself. As I have never worked with fibreglass before it certainly will be a big learning curve – but I already have an idea on how to go about it.
The positive news is that EuropeSpares has finally shipped the Smith gauges, glass and bezels. This should arrived by mid July. I believe I have all parts I need to complete the car now. The final restoration phase is starting today 🙂
