The final assembly of the Morgan takes much longer then expected. This is mostly caused by external factors – but also by sometimes small items/screws/cables and so on that are missing. The most important item on the ToDo list is almost complete: the new dashboard. The long awaited package from EuropaSpares with the new Smith gauges and chrome bezels arrived a few days ago. I went with a black-stained beech dashboard and decided to leave away the leather padding on-top of the scuttle panel. Firstly I like the looks of the earlier Morgan’s without it, secondly I know that fitting leather is something I am not good at.
The new wood for the side and door panels is ready – but my attempt to glue leather to it was really bad. Fortunately I tried with the smallest piece – so I didn’t waste too much of the leather I bought. With a bit of luck I can at least pickup the dashboard from the paint-shop tomorrow – I decided to have them apply a few layers of clear coat.
Instruments are all working now – the new tachometer works, I just need to wire up the new speedometer and do the calibration. If the weather permits it – I hope to do a test drive after the car has been painted by Sunday.

The wire wheels have been neglected for too long
6 hours with steal wool and other tools went into them so far… but they still been more TLC
cleaning all brightwork takes time
before (top) and after (bottom):
wood is expensive these days. 4mm beech plywood
stripping the old parts
little note from the factory

I spray painted the new seat brackets myself…
checking the leather
and cutting out a small piece
I did not take pictures after this…. I screwed up the the glue…
I used a few minutes of sun this week o move the MGB out and work on the Morgan
template and trial with some print outs I made
I had to get a feel for the proportions on the car
Testing the panel – I used hardboard material later on
The template and the Copy-Bit on the router table worked out
Test with new instruments
Testing aligment
Indicator stalks have the right clearance now
Testing if the stalk cover and steering wheel hub have the right clearance
A smaller black leather steering wheel from Nardi is on my wishlist.
Testing all stains I have
In the end I used multiple layers of both products here
CAD – Cardboard Aided Design
An old MiniSport calender from 2020 was sacrified for the task
and then transferred to 1mm aluminum
It is not really nice – but once carpet is glued into the glove-box nobody will notice
Dashboard almost done
