rock on to electric avenue

Family obligations kept me from working on the Morgan for the last week. The main goal for the weekend was to finish the dashboard and everything that is connect to it. As most of the task are really about fixing things that are worked before I did not take many pictures. Here is what I managed to complete in 4 hours…

  • fix and permanently connect 12v to the Brantz BR4 sensor for the new Smith speedometer
  • turn the two Lucas Off/On/On switched 180degrees so that the off position is pointing down
  • check by the handbrake switch light is not working
  • remove the speakers and panels attached to the under scuttle roll-bar
  • move the switch for the heated seats and place it in the seat brackets
  • remove and diagnose the new Lucas indicator stalk
  • check and replace hazard switch
  • after double checking lights and indicators – wrap the secure the cables beneath the front and rear wings
  • clean up front suspension from dust
  • apply grease and put on the wire wheels

During the process I ended up taking the dashboard out again (which I really wanted to avoid) – but the oil pressure gauge turned out to be an issue. Well, actually the connection of the pressure hose wasn’t any good and while testing the speedo and Brant quite a bit of oil leaked out just behind the dashboard. Needless to say that I was’t happy about the mess I had to clean afterwards. I really should have switched to an electric oil pressure gauge. I found one here https://www.competitionsupplies.com/smiths-electric-oil-temperature-gauge and I consider replacing the old gauge in the future.

The problem with the indicator turned out to be two-fold. Firstly the contact-pin was slightly bend. So when pushing the indicator stalk down to engage the right turn-signal – there was no contact. The other problem (which is also reason why a fuses blew) is that the upper screw was a bit too long. when the end of the screw that holds the indicator extrudes the plastic, it created a short-circuit as it almost touches the cable/contact. I found a slightly shorter screw which solved the problem.

It looks like I am very close to the finish line with the dashboard and all electrical stuff. If it is not raining tomorrow – I hope to do a bit longer test drive – leaving the proximity of my garage πŸ™‚
