A longer post will follow shortly – but as a quick note: THINK TWICE before sandblasting some smaller parts!!!! Among other things I had the MGB air filter housing (part number AHH6447) sandblasted and powder coated.
Surely, it looks quite nice but the metal housing warped, and the metal has expanded. The result is that the round backing plate does not fit anymore…..
Currently I don’t really have a good idea on how to fix/address this other than doing a cut in the bottom side – fitting it into the plate – remove the overlapping material and weld it up again carefully. Not a great solution
If you have a rusted air filter housing for an MGB that you want to get rid of – let me know. Next time I will use chemical paint strip, put it in citric acid to remove the rust and use a spray can…
Learning the hard way sucks ….
Update: …. I did not realize right way that the round plate needs to go inside the housing. Nevertheless – it still doesn’t fit properly as the housing metal is bent badly. Will fiddle around with this a bit
