well, I couldn’t. At least not today. So, I got of the kitchen and didn’t follow my plan for the day – which was to remove the wiring harness from the Morgan again. Instead, I did a bunch of odd jobs which required less concentration – it was just too hot today.
The first task was to switch the indicator bulbs to LED. I bought those for the MGB – but as changing Maggie’s flasher relay turned out to be a bit more work back in March – I had those still laying around. There are two reasons for this switch. For one they are much brighter. But they also draw significantly less power – which is a good thing. I also knew that the flasher relay socket is easily accessible and that this will be a plug & play exchange. While changing the bulbs I noticed that the contacts in the Lucas L691 base plates are corroded – I cleaned them up a little but will replace them at some point.
Next up was to test the Revotec radiator fan to verify the cabling. A Black-Yellow and a Black cable attach to the temperature sensor. After bridging those the fan worked happily and is very silent. I had two emails on my last post with a few good recommendations how to tackle the potential heat problem. Adding a manual override switch on the dashboard was mentioned both times and is on my ToDo list – along with the relay. More on the other suggestions I received will follow later.
On closer inspection I saw that the old cable to the distributor is damaged. When adding the new distributor, I managed to find a Ford 84AG12405 BA cable as NewOldStock (NOS). This was the official spare part for Ford Escorts when the distributor was replaced. When I have the loom on my bench, I will remove the redundant connectors – also the one for the old distributor and put it in permanently.
At this point I decided to clean up the garage and try to get both GT body shells tugged away in my “storage” garage for now. This will give me enough room to work on the Morgan and layout the loom on the floor. But fitting both shells in a single garage only works if one is attached to the rotisserie.
Getting everything out of the garage, cleaning everything and mounting the shell to the roll-over jig took a long time. Tomorrow I will have a few hours to work on the Morgan as well.
