Engine buff up

The fresh up of the 18V581 engine out of the 1973 MGB GT (aka Mildred) is on a good track. There are a few parts missing – some I have already ordered – some I need to order this week. Quite a bit of time went into cleaning the sump and timing cover. They were quite a rough shape and I decided for the wire-wheel and against blasting. All parts got two coats or rust converter followed by a few layers of black Hammerit. The “black” thermo spray on the engine block does not really look the way I want – I will redo this next week.

I cleaned up all screws in the Ultrasonic cleaner – followed by a few hours in the media tumbler – the result are really good. Today I also picked up another 18GB engine block which I got from Ebay. I think I made a mistake bidding on this one – nobody else was stupid enough to throw in money for it.

The plan is to rebuild this block next year for the 1970 MGB GT shell (aka Molly) – I tried to conserve all parts by cleaning the surface rust and applying WD40 before wrapping all in foil.
