My daughter and I had a fabulous time in Spitzingsee, Rottach-Egern and Munich this weekend. After a challenging 20km hike to the Rotwand and back on Saturday, we took the Wallbergbahn lift south of Rottach-Egern on Sunday and enjoyed brilliant weather on the mountain top. Driving Maggie via small backroads back to Munich was also real fun. The tire pressure had to be checked regularly – but other than that the MG performed beautifully.
After dropping off my daughter at the airport I headed to a hotel in Freising. Unfortunately, the rear right tire lost almost 1bar over night. Therefore my first stop this morning was a DIY market where I got another bottle of “Nigrin Reifendicht”. While filling the bottle into the tire I already had the feeling that this might work out better – you could see how the tire is getting back it’s pressure.
The most logically choice from Freising to Nuremberg is the Autobahn A9. But I felt more comfortable taking back roads. And so I did. The first part was the B301 to Abensberg. Due to construction work I followed even smaller roads all the way Essingen where I followed the St2230 for some time. I checked the tire pressure a few times and the new spray seems to hold.
The route I picked could not have been better. This is exactly what the MGB GT is made for. Pure driving pleasure. You see places and landscapes that you have never seen before. I stopped many times – Partly to do a check partly because I just had to take a look and think: “there is too much on the left and right on the road we tend to not look at”
It took 3.5h to get from Freising to Nuremberg – I guess twice as long as normal. I did not waste time – every minute was quality time. I did two longer phone calls on the road – I would have normally done from some desk. Outcome is the same – so I feel like a winner today.
Take a classic car, take the back roads, take a different look on your surroundings – there is more to gain than than being in the office back 2h earlier….
