Weeks without any work being done on the Mildred’s shell have passed. The work stalled after we ran into issues with poor fitment of the right sill. This turned out to be a Steelcraft panel – even though I thought I ordered British motor Heritage ones. In October I brought a BMH outer sill back from a trip to London. Last week finally some progress was made again in just two days. And sure enough – the BMH sill went in without major issues.
While at it – and because I had the part available – the Crossmember was also completely replaced. In the end this was easier than fixing various dents and problematic spots. The garage that is doing the metal work has a spot welder with insanely long extension arms. This is making the replacement much easier. No drilling, no weld cleaning and grinding required.
Before the new rear wings can be fitted, the doors and front wings need to be done. This is important to get the side line right. The old front wings I took off were heavily rusted. One replaced with a later variant, which means the front indicators did not have the same position. I also have used replacement front wings from a 1974 V8 shell. Slightly better, but still in need of rust repairs. After some back and forth I agreed to buy a new set of BMH wings.
Theoretical this should have made things simpler. But fitting them is a bit more tricky than expected. On the left side we have stripped and already pre painted inner door installed. The skins will add at least two more millimeters of thickness. The door hinges are already pushed in as much as possible. Currently the wings and doors don’t align properly. Getting this right will take a few hours off fiddling.
To make things easier I also brought along the doors from the V8 shell. On the right side I was able to fit wing and door reasonably well within two hours. The lower hinge still needs to be pulled out a little. This way the lower front part of the door aligns with the wings and the upper needs to be moved back a little.
The new fusebox (the pink PLA print is a just a test will get in next. For the splash panels I have the original rubber seals. But these need to be riveted in. I was just made aware that Moss and otherA sell a different type of seal. This is better in my opinion and I need to source it somewhere.
There are still many hours required to finish the shell. I plan to test fit the wiring harness and make sure all fasteners bolt in before getting the paint done. Hopefully the next update follows soon.

Goodness, great work!!!
