Project Mildred (my 1973 MGB GT) is a good example that rust removal and bodywork is the most time consuming and cost intensive parts in a restoration. For a long time I often thought that it would be nice if I would be able to do at least some of the metal work and welding.... Continue Reading →
Mildred’s Dashboard – Part 1
Mildred's final paint job is still a few months down the road. But the inner doors and tailgate frame and the outer skins will get painted before the parts will be put together again. And my wife and I decided, that Mildred's future dashboard will also be painted with the new body color instead of... Continue Reading →
MGB seat rails upgrade
Last weekend I had travel up north. The plan was to take the Morgan and enjoy the sunny weather. However, a minor technical issue (loose starter cable-shoe) and the fact that I had to take our dog (Friedmann) along, made Maggie the better choice. On short trips Friedmann is usually fine with sneaking into the... Continue Reading →
little things
Another two weeks without any major progress on the MGB GT restoration or other projects. I just had time for some little things. With the engine stand almost completed I decided to clean the cooling system before hooking it up. For this I connected a piece of old hose to the water pump and made... Continue Reading →
Mildred’s 18V581 engine rebuild – status update / Engine Stand
When we took Mildred's engine apart back in February, the plan was that it would go to the machine for 4 to 6 weeks and get the assembly done in June. My intention was to get it completed, attach it to the Mazda 5-speed gearbox I bought last year and change Maggie's engine out. This... Continue Reading →
Project Mildred update (summer 24)
After a vacation, limited time was spent on project Mildred, with substantial maintenance and cleaning efforts on the Morgan. Progress on the MGB GT waits on required welding and body-work to start. Preparation includes having necessary repair panels and planning efficient wiring improvements. The dilemma over positioning the fuse and relay holder persists.
bits and bobs
Last weekend I worked hard to finish off the Morgan wiring. A closed-end battery cable connector had to be cramped onto the new brown cables from the fuse box. As I don't have the right tool for this I drove over to Stephan's workshop and borrowed the large hydraulic cramping tools from him. Next, I... Continue Reading →
Gimme a brake… Lockeed Caliper overhaul (Part 2)
As mentioned before the Lockheed calipers I took of Mildred (my 1973 MGB GT) are in a really bad condition. After getting the pistons out and taking the halves apart I spent a good amount of time cleaning them with a wirewheel. The old brake fluid turned into some form of goo which I got... Electrified
With summer coming closer the main priority is to get the Morgan back on the road. All bookings for our Bonn-Barecelona-Balears trip have been made by now. But C6622 is currently not going anywhere without a wiring harness. Even though I started rebuilding the loom back in November last year I never got around to... Continue Reading →
Gimme a brake… Lockeed Caliper overhaul & other stuff – Part 1
Did I mention that Maggie's squealing brakes are a major annoyance? After switching to the EBC GreenStuff brake pads last month the issue became even worse compared to the standard ones I had for the last two years. This has been a battle ever since I installed replacement brake calipers and moved away from the... Continue Reading →
