For the first time in the last couple months, I did not spend a minute in the garage last week. Work kept me busy until late afternoon all week. With Miffi (my Mini Cooper) and random stuff temporarily stored in the garage the space is limited. This results in moving stuff around for quite a... Continue Reading →
some panels back on
Last Thursday evening I was able to pick up all panels from the paint-shop. Everything is now protected with EP and the backside of the aluminum panel that go on the frame is painted in British Racing Green. Ok - we all know that there isn't a single BRG - there are many shaded. So,... Continue Reading →
Mr. Weber & I
Earlier this year I took the Weber 32/34 DTF4 A carb apart. At that point I did not have an ultrasonic cleaner and someone I know offered to clean it. It came back clean - but after a couple of days the surface started to change. Though I am still unsure I believe it is some... Continue Reading →
Waiting to be seated…
The backside of the panels for frame are currently being painted and I am still anxiously awaiting the new wiring harness from AutoSparks. The goal of having a rolling chassis has been completed - with one little thing to do: installing the new EZ Powersteering. While this in theory sounds like a straightforward job it... Frame on chassis and some next steps
Making new quarter panels and trial fitting them with the rear panels while the frame was off the chassis was good. However I came to the conclusion that to get the scuttle panel back on the frame needs to be on the chassis and the bulkhead attached. While it is not much the bulkhead pulls... Continue Reading →
fifty shades of green
I didn't really get anything done on the Morgan today. The day started with an early trip in the MGB heading north on the A61. On the way to the Autobahn, I already had the feeling that there is sometimes a strange sound coming from the front suspension. At around 175km/h (the scary thing is... Continue Reading →
small steps
There was almost no time for the garage this week. I just managed to finish the modification for the brake mount brackets, got them painted and installed on the car now. The caliper is not completely centered with the disk yet - I just ordered 0.3mm shims to correct it. The instructions unfortunately do not... Continue Reading →
low tech solution for HiSpec brakes
The new 4pot brake calipers are nice but the rear brake pad hits the caliper mounting bracket. The instructions from HiSpec are generic for any car - for the Morgan it should be made clear that the brake mounts have to be modified. I was unsure about this but friendly fellow Morgan drivers confirmed this... Continue Reading →
Goodbye comfort zone
With the chassis in an (almost) rolling condition it was time to focus on the next task ahead. The rear quarter panel on the right side (offsite) of the car had a ~4cm torn area beneath the door even before I took the car apart. The repair attempt on the 1mm thick alloy did not... Rolling and unstoppable
Getting to a rolling chassis was my main priority for this weekend. As I already wrote in an earlier post I forgot to put the bumpstops (basically two cut-offs from a rubber hose) around the kingpins. Using the "Tried & True method" for the 3rd time now - I only need about 45min for removing... Continue Reading →
