Hard to believe that five months past, since we assembled Mildred's engine. A few open tasks and issues prevented the final completion. The biggest problem was that I bought ARP main bearing studs instead of bolts. The 18V engines need those as otherwise the oil sump cover does not fit. Although I know that it... Continue Reading →
MGB Oil pump and other stuff
After last weeks engine rebuild session it took me a while to clean up everything. The only thing missing to finish the engine are the ARP main bearing bolts. As mentioned last week I mistakenly bought ARP studs. These are used for the 18GB engines - 18V requires bolts. A set is ordered and should... Continue Reading →
Mildred’s 18V581 engine rebuild – Part 3 – Up’s and Down’s
This full post is going to be a long read. The TLDR summary is: After a number of problems the engine is about 85% complete. A few parts need to be changed and ordered - a first test firing might be still a few weeks away. But if you want all details you need to... Continue Reading →
Rally Dashboard
Ever since I bought the Brantz International Pro2 a few years back I had the idea of creating a proper Rally Dashboard. At the same time I had a something in mind that would not require changes or damage to the original dashboard. After all - most of the time I don't need the equipment.... Continue Reading →
Engine Test Rig complete & other things
With just a few hours in the garage every week, it felt like I did not get much done in November. But looking back at the pictures I took - quite a few things happened. First was setting up my new welding machine. There is not too much to say about it. It does what... Continue Reading →
Maggie’s back on the road
KS Motortechnik finished skimming the cylinderhead on Wednesday. They also lapped the valve seats and cleaned the head. The thorough inspection concluded without any faults or issues. When I got the cylinderhead back the maroon color - which was the default for 18GB engines - was completely gone. Two coats of primer and three coats... Continue Reading →
Canned heat & the pedal box
The MGB's heater box is something that I believe is featured in every MGB restoration at some point. Time for me to do the mandatory heater box post as well. πAnd it has been quite some way for a simple task in the entire restoration. Back in 2021, when I took Mildred apart, I disassembled... I like to move it, move it
Finally!!! Two years & seven-a-half months after I bought the replacement bodyshell for Mildred, the bodywork is about to begin. As last preparation I added to steel bars I had laying around to the dolly. This allows placing up to six Euro boxes under the shell. This should help the workshop team help keeping all... MGB seat rails upgrade
Last weekend I had travel up north. The plan was to take the Morgan and enjoy the sunny weather. However, a minor technical issue (loose starter cable-shoe) and the fact that I had to take our dog (Friedmann) along, made Maggie the better choice. On short trips Friedmann is usually fine with sneaking into the... Continue Reading →
Project Mildred update (summer 24)
After a vacation, limited time was spent on project Mildred, with substantial maintenance and cleaning efforts on the Morgan. Progress on the MGB GT waits on required welding and body-work to start. Preparation includes having necessary repair panels and planning efficient wiring improvements. The dilemma over positioning the fuse and relay holder persists.
