We just returned from the UK where we stayed a couple of days for family reasons. This trip was planned for quite some time. A perfect opportunitiy to pick up some new parts for the Morgan. I had already ordered the essential wood replacements for the rotten sill and door rocker from Melvyn Rutter. I also knew that I really wanted to get a scuttle anti rollbar hoop. My father had talked about this 25 years ago – but never installed it. And after 280000+ km on the clock – the suspension needed a bit of a refresh.
I cannot recall when or how I heard about the Rutherford suspension upgrade for the Morgan. But when I took the car apart in April/May this year I made the decision that this is something I really want to add. A quick Google search brought up the GoMog page covering this topic and from there it was a single click to get to the NewElms homepage.
After having a really nice chat with Tim Ayres from NewElms my shopping list was almost everything on his two page list. Tim was also so kind to store a couple of other orders I made. So today I was able to unpack the following:
- A new door sillboard, Door rocker, hinge and catch post for the left hand side of the car.
- New stainless steal hinges
- Scuttle anti rollbar hoop
- New 6 leaf springs
- Rutherford rear shock absorder conversion including AVO shocks
- Panhard rod kit
- Complete Rutherford front supsensin overhaul kit incl. AVOs
- negative chamber plates
- Steering roller bearings
- My stub axles with newly reamed bronze bushings
- My serviced ishop steering box
- Weber 32/34 DFT service kit + new K&N air filter from Burton Power
- new Ford engines mounts from Burton Power
- new front brake disks with HiSpec 4pot brake calipers
- new set of silicon hoses “vintage style” from Roose
- last but not least: a new Si-Fab alloy radiator along with a new fan
- new Girling rear brake slave cylinders and new TRW brake shoes
- some other bits and pieces
Quite a bit of stuff and certainly an investment. I decided to do these upgrades as I want to drive the Morgan for a long time and I believe this is worth it.
I also dropped of the Salisbury 7HA rear axle at JB Sport Engineering. In theory it should have been completed overhauled by now but unfortunately this did not work out as planned. Oh and that reminds me: I picked up the finished engine and gear box last week. So slowly but steadly the project is progressing 🙂
