Workbench Upgrade

Ever since I built the garage workbench, I wanted to have an easy to clean bench surface. My idea was to get 1mm thick sheet metal to cover the OSB board. But back in 2020 when we still had Corona lockdown, I just used stuff I had at hand/could easily get. After starting to use the bench as it was – I never got around doing the surface.

Yesterday I had the chance to get three 1200x600x6,5mm coated boards that started to warp for close to nothing. They are very resistant to fluids and easy to clean. The slight twist is not a problem as they will be screw down anyway. The measurements were also close to perfect – the surface I needed to cover is 359 long and 63 cm deep.

For the front and back edges, I bought L-shaped angled metal profiles in 65x35mm. The material is 1,5mm thick and I used my router to take this off a thin strip on the front and back of the board. To fill up the remaining 3cm in depth – I just used thin strips of 5mm thick MDF underneath the profiles. As I haven’t opened the windows in 2 years – I figured that I should also put a piece of board and profile in front of the window – countless nuts & bolts feel rolled down this way in the past.
