Bonn-Barcelona-Baleares: Day 2

After a good rest in Lyon our first stop after to hotel was a gas station. During our stop in Nancy the only fuel available at the AVIA station was E10. Not ideal – but it will also not kill the Morgan immediately. Especially not as I had about 15 Liter of SP98 left in the tank.

I was surprised that the fuel consumption was about more than 2 Liter higher: almost 11 Liters for 10km. This morning I got SP98 again and we are back at 8.4l fuel consumption today. Like yesterday we mostly stayed on the motorway. The weather wasn’t great and my wife rather wanted to take a break on the sea side. So I dipped the planned route though the
Parc naturel régional des Monts d’Ardèche.

Instead we stayed on the A7 to Orange, took the A9 to Nimes and departed shortly after onto the D61 towards Carnon – which looked promising from the map. But I reality it was just mediocre. We got some Sandwiches from a Supermarket and hat a lunch break at the beach. Not bad – but also nothing worth repeating.

After the break we headed towards Séte, but just before getting there decided to get back on the motorway to Girona. The only thing noteworthy about this are the side winds. The area is known for strong winds. I read about this and the dozens or signs on the road don’t lie. Funnily enough – in modern cars that usually doesn’t effect you much – if at all. But I really had a hard time keeping the Morgan on a straight line.

This went on right up to the Spanish border. There the wind was not a problem anymore but the rain. It was pouring and we put the roof back up at the first gas station we could find. In Girona I booked the Hotel North – right in the city center. But due to the heavy rain my wife wasn’t keen to explore – we just took a few steps to the next bar.
