Bonn-Barcelona-Baleares: Day 3

After two mostly  rainy days on French motorways we were finally in Girona. The hotel I booked was in the old city centre and offered parking. Getting into the garage however was extremely difficult. A steep access down into the garage, with a tight 90 degree left corner that required reversing the Morgan several times. Barely possible with our small 4/4 – a wider Morgan Plus 8 without power steering would have had not been able to get down there.

As I later found out Parking Eiximenis has two entries – I choose the the more difficult one. My morning started with a quick car check. No leaks, oil and coolant levels perfect. Minimal loss of tire pressure. Occasionally we got a rattling sound from the exhaust on bumpy roads. The hangers were all OK – but this is something I need investigate. With the daily car service out of the way, it was time to enjoy the day.

Exploring the old city centre was very nice. We had breakfast on the Plaça de la Independència, visited the Catedral de Santa Maria strolled through nice old alleys on both sides of the Riu Onyar.

Heading towards Barcelona we opted for smaller roads this time. Road C-65 took us to Llagostera were we took the amazing GIP-6821 towards the remains of Castell de Montagut. It is a small, windy road and except for three ambitious cyclists fighting their way uphill, nobody else was on this road.  Our little C6622 is not fast, but 50-70 km/h here felt like a hill climb race already.

The view from the old castle was incredible and so was the street onwards to Tossa del Mar. After Lloret del Mar we took the C-32 to Barcelona. Even though this is a two lane motorway – it was one of the nicest highways I have driven. Traffic in Barcelona on a Friday early afternoon was not as bad as I feared. Our hotel was close to the La Rambla and also offered parking – a feature highly recommended if you plan a similar trip in a Morgan.

From Friday to Sunday we did not move the car a bit. Instead we walked more than 50(!)km. For my taste it is the most amazing cities and clearly understand why our first born daughter choosed to work and live there for a while.
