R.I.P. Dad

Last month my father passed away. Even though we all knew that due to his sickness and condition it would happen eventually – it is painful when the moment finally comes. I wasn’t sure if I should write about it or not. But my obsession for the Morgan and British cars was certainly something my dad passed on to me. And when I started this blog and the restoration of C6622, I know that he enjoyed seeing the pictures and progress.

However, Dad’s passion wasn’t restoring or taking care of the car. He loved driving the Morgan. Mostly to meet and make friends. From about 1988 to 2003 the Morgan and especially the Morgan Club Deutschland played an important role in his life (well, actually for the entire family). Countless memories are connected to tours, trips, Competitions and events we did with the Morgan.

He had his first stroke 22 years ago and that changed him a lot. My mother’s relentless care for him did wonders. They still did tours with the Morgan – but not to the same extend. During a heart operation eight years ago, he suffered an even more severe stroke. I am grateful for the last two short drives we did together in the Morgan last year. I basically lifted him in and out of the car – and he certainly enjoyed a last visit in the “Kaffeehaus” in Solingen-Gräfrath.

About 10 days ago, at a nice Morgan meeting in the Eifel (actually Saarland), the lost “unMOGlich Schwarte” remerged after 17 years. This was a book written by the Morgan Club Deutschland section “unMOGlich”. Since 1988 the members collected stories and memories of each gathering and added them in the book in creative ways. As my parents were active members of the MCD at this time – they also got a few entries in this book. This was unexpected for me and a quite emotional read for me.

We will miss you dad.
