I like to move it, move it

Finally!!! Two years & seven-a-half months after I bought the replacement bodyshell for Mildred, the bodywork is about to begin. As last preparation I added to steel bars I had laying around to the dolly. This allows placing up to six Euro boxes under the shell.  This should help the workshop team help keeping all the replacement panels, hinges, imperial screws etc together.

Getting the dolly onto the trailer single-handed at high-noon on a hot summer day was demanding. Fortunately, I had no time pressure. After carefully tying down the dolly to the trailer it was just a short drive around the block to the bodyshop.

After unloading we inspected the condition of the shell again. First decision was that the second-hand tailgate I also got back from KTL requires too much work – instead I will get a replacement skin. Most likely the starting point will be the floors and crossmember along with the sills.

While I already have a replacement left hand a-post, the condition of the current one was subject of debate. The current one might be good enough. The new boot floor also has the mounting points for the front leaf springs. Currently the shell is attached to those. As I also build a roll-over jig that attaches to the rear bumper mounts – I am certain that this is the way to go – it will take a few days until they realise that I have though about this a bit…

Currently it is unclear when the first round of welding and bodywork will be completed. I hope for end of the year. A test fit it all panels and some components will follow to identify if some holes can be welded or new ones need to be drilled. Even though it is expensive – KTL of the entire shell might follow. But one step after the other….

    1. Edd China’s video on the Morgan chassis replacement (which IMO looked like a bit of a crude job in some places) was actually helpful a few years back when I did C6622.
