Bits and Bobs

The first part of the title is quite literal as I spent a significant amount of spare time last week with development. A first peek (actually a prototype) is currently on my website – but this is just a small part of what I am working on and already not up-to-date anymore. 30 years ago I developed software, but shifted into other roles and skills overtime. Nowadays AI supported development enables me to bring ideas to life that look overwhelming to code on my own. More to follow on this shortly.

Miffi’s cleaned engine block is at the machine shop along with a set of new ACL bearings. I tried getting them locally without success. Best option was to get them from MED in the UK. They use DHL and send so quickly that from a timing point of view it makes no difference if you order there or locally. However, it is really expensive. 60£ for bearings (without VAT), ~40£ shipping and another ~40€ here for DHL handling/VAT/Customs – this adds up.

But 48h after ordering I was able to drop the bearings at KS Motortechnik and they are working on my crankshaft which can now be test fitted along with my Maxxpeeding H-rods. These will be joined by a set of Swiftune Die-Cast pistons (floating pin) for a nice 1293ccm setup. I opted against going 1310 or even 1330 even though this might add 2-3bhp and torque.

With the workbench cleared I cleaned up more parts and had a 15min fight with clutch lever and pin. Heat, a hammer and patience won in the end. The new parts washer is a blessing and the transfer-case and “wok” (as the Mini’s clutch cover is referred to) look good. But they would look even better if blasted with glass beads….

Talking about blasting: the subframe got blasted and immediately brought to the paint-shop. I decided against powder-coating this in the end. With a bit of luck it will be ready tomorrow.
