A short update from Mildred. This morning the right door and tailgate were re-skinned as planned. They called me in the afternoon and asked me to bring a few pieces required for fitment. As soon as Stephan mentioned the tailgate lock, catch and boot lock handle I immediately knew that I have no idea where I put them. They certainly were not among that parts I scanned when I redid my storage a few weeks back. Turns out it is exactly five years ago that I took the tailgate apart. As it was already past 5pm when I left work, I only had 30 minutes to find them. Instead I quickly took the one off a spare tailgate. But the catch (HZA356) was nowhere to be found. The only thing I could think off was to borrow the one from Maggie.
When I got to the workshop after work the team already left. There are still modifications required on both doors to get the panel gap right.Especially on the left side. The passenger side sill fits much better. This is the difference between the two are the panels. On the left we used a steel craft sill (left) and BMH panel. This was not intentional. I really thought both were BMH. Well, too late now. The fix will be to weld some material onto the panel and door skin. It just costs more hours…. Fortunately the tailgate skin (a BMH panel) fits perfectly and didn’t required major changes.
Fitting the tail gate lock and catch was easy, but I have noticed that there is an issue with the hinges. The are quite stiff. Back at home I noticed there is a left and right side hinge. This is something I will need to double check. While at it, I will lubricate them properly. Before I went home we discussed smaller changes required for the door chrome strips. These need to go one first before I can test fit the quarter lights – which I also brought along today. After long consideration the sliding roof will also be fitted to Mildred. An original Britax Weathershield in quite good condition found its way into my garage a long time ago. It is still mounted to a pieces of roof – and secured with a wooden frame around it.
But before this goes in – the two rear wings are up next
