MGB Bodyshell (8): left rear wing and arch

Another quick update on Mildred before I head into the garage to work on Miffi. The left rear wings came off today. For this side I did not buy a complete replacement wheel arch – just a small repair panel. And only half of this panel was required. As this bodyshell is actually from a LHD 1970 European GT it is not surprising that the left side is a bit better. The passenger side typically sees more water and dirt.

A somewhat difficult area is the transition to the rear valance. We were debating if the overlap is the result of a doggy repair or if it might be original. The other MGB we have access to has the same ugly overlap weld just underneath the corner of the rear bumper.

On both sides of the car there is an additional piece of metal between the arch and the body. We don’t believe that this served an purpose and got rid of this. Currently the new wing is just tagged in place for now. Adjustments on the dog-leg to door panel are required.

We are on track to have all panels and major body work done by the end of the week. But all these adjustments leave a lot of dents. I guess 2-3kg of filler will be needed to smooth everything out.
